Average review score:

A very fine story of family Christmas spiritIn Susan Bartoletti's The Christmas Promise, a young girl and her poor father have little to share on Christmas, but they have their love and trust, even when the authorities threaten them for their wayward lifestyle. David Christiana's captivating and sensitive drawings showcase this very fine story of family Christmas spirit.

Cindy's Runaway Colt #13
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Average review score:

VERY, VERY, VERY GOOD!This is a terrific book! It tells the story about Cindy and Storm and their friendship before Storm lived at Whitebrook. It has the message that if something is very wrong, you can't just act like it never happened. You have to do something about it! Anyways, it was a VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY GOOD BOOK! Sarah :) P.S. THOROUGHBRED BOOKS RULE!

Civil Rights Chronicle: Letters from the South
Published in Hardcover by Univ Pr of Mississippi (May, 1997)
Average review score:

A citizen who refused to remain passive in an unjust eraOne seldom recalls that black students caught up in the civil rights movement were also struggling during this era simply to get an education. The author takes us through a turbulent era from inside the hurricane as both teacher and participant in the civil rights movement. Dramatic, gripping and filled with dry humor, this is a must read for anyone interested not only in the civil rights movement but in the history of black education in this country.

Classic and Contemporary Readings in Sociology
Published in Textbook Binding by Longman (December, 1998)
Average review score:

Very readable writing.I used this book for additional reading and reference for a course in Sociology at Penn State. It is very well written, easy to read (usually means short length of subject) and gives varying views of social observations of differing subjects and cultures. I recommend it for reading as my text book has too much stuff to remember.

Colossus of Folk Medicine: An Encyclopedia
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (August, 2000)
Average review score:

Colossus of Folk Medicine: An EncyclopediaQuite simply, at 600+ pages, this book Colossus of Folk Medicine--An Encyclopedia--is the most comprehensive collection of folk medicine remedies, concoctions, preparations, et cetera, ever published. Remedies range from A - Z, from simple to sublime, from recent to pre-historic, originate from throughout the world, and are multi-cultural. Information on some subjects is particularly extensive, covering more "cures" (in certain areas) than is available in the entire text on most folk medicine publications. Writing style is terse, and avoids fluff. Personal opinions of the writer are largely avoided.

Comeback of the Bears
Published in Paperback by Klarus Syndicate (05 October, 2000)
Average review score:

warm and tribalA real "page turner", COMEBACK OF THE BEARS, offers an abundance of surprise, style and irreverence for the politically correct and not so correct. The novel's hero, Johnny Kill Dear, encounters the bears of the Smokey Mountains and faces the question of which world, red or white, to embrace. The pace and overlay of madness and mystical charm and chaos helped me get a fix on having a lot more fun in the too often constipated process of trying to be a concerned and effective citizen. Balancing, challenging the absurdities of entrenched patterns of human (and not just human) nature and allowing the depth of the past to speak through uncommon heroes, James Brooks uses sex, violence, sports, technology, profanity and more to feed your soul. Character development fights its way through heavy overlays of sometimes indulgent details and macho cleverness.. Yes, I wrote this in the oral surgeon's chair waiting to have a wisdom tooth extracted . Read on. Ready for more, James . Write on!

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Computer Illustration
Published in Paperback by Alpha Books (30 May, 2002)
Average review score:

Smart, funnyDon't give up on the idiot guides just yet. This one is the best one in a long time. The author makes sense of Adobe Illustrator with style. You build a comic strip from scratch throughout this book. You can use the author's cartoons that come on the CD-ROM, or you can follow the step-by-step instructions and draw your own. The author's art has a Magilla-Gorilla feel to it, plus there's a color insert with another original computer-rendered comic strip that's a send-up of 2001: A Space Odyssey -- I think.
The author is a fine writer. He explains his subject thoroughly with an eye toward entertaining you. In the spirit of the idiot guides, there is plenty of good natured humor.
This one is a great book for kids, too, by the way. A pleasure to flip through. All in all, a nice package!

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Getting a Good Night's Sleep (Complete Idiot's Guides)
Published in Paperback by MacMillan Distribution (September, 1998)
Average review score:

This one really talks to my problems with practical adviceI've read a number of books about sleep and they all seem similar to me. This book has a number of questionnaires to give me what the book calls my sleep personality profile (it's sort of like a Briggs-Meyers profile). Using the results I can then find recommendations that apply to my type. Plus, there are a bunch of tests and forms I can use to help me do the things I need to get better sleep. A great, hands-on book.

The Complete Idiot's Guide to the Book of Revelation (Complete Idiot's Guide To)
Published in Unknown Binding by Alpha Pub (E) (December, 2001)
Average review score:

Presents many end-world viewsI was reading the Left Behind books and began to think to myself "surely, this can't be the only explanation for the Book of Revelation". I mean, I'm a Christian, but I wanted a little bit of perspective and maybe some other theories. This book gives me just that and explains many of the other theories scholars think Revelation might mean. A great study tool for anyone wanting to find out more.

Everything about the C.S.N. you wanted to know. This book is excellent. Probably you won't find such a complete information and photos in one single "small volume".As a War-Between-The States enthusiast I think the author,-R. Thomas Campbell-, has accomplished his informative objectives.
